Job Description and Role Responsibilities:

JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are looking for a methodical and highly organised scientist to join the Nutritional Supplement Testing team, within our Sport and Specialised Analytical Services (SSAS) department.

Job purpose:

You will undertake the analysis of a wide range of supplement matrices to ensure products are not contaminated with banned substances, thereby protecting both elite athletes and consumers alike.

You will be using methodologies based on GCMS/MS and LC-MS/MS, including High Resolution Accurate Mass technology to detect and identify a wide range of prohibited substances.

The SSAS team operates to ISO 17025 quality systems and provides a range of contract analytical services, primarily involved in the analysis of drugs and substances prohibited in sport and is located at our Fordham facility.

Key accountabilities:

  • General laboratory skills
  • Extraction of drugs from a range of sample matrices using techniques such as Liquid/Liquid and Solid Phase Extraction (SPE)
  • Analysis of samples using GC-MS and/or LC-MS techniques
  • As part of the team ensure that operational targets are met and exceeded where possible


Qualifications

Education, experience and skills

  • Degree (BSc or MSc) or equivalent, in an appropriate subject
  • Sound scientific knowledge with experience of chromatography and related techniques
  • Knowledge and experience of mass spectrometry, including triple quadrupole and high resolution accurate mass instruments
  • Knowledge and experience of Liquid / Liquid and SPE extraction techniques
