Pathology Department


Two 21-month FIXED TERM MEDICAL SECRETARY Band 3 Positions


Full-time – 37.5hrs (Monday - Friday 08:30–17:00)


Part-time and job share applicants will be considered (hours within Monday – Friday 08:30 – 17:00)


On site working only, both WGH and RIE sites available


Salary £21,709 to £23,603


Applications are invited from suitably experienced and motivated individuals with a basic knowledge of medical terminology, to support the issue of patient diagnosis within Pathology reports as well as support Pathologists prepare for Multidisciplinary Meetings (MDMs). The Pathology Department provides patient diagnosis, including cancer diagnosis, for the majority of scheduled care specialties e.g. Breast, Gynaecological etc. Pathology Department is based over two sites; one post will be nominally based at the Western General Hospital site and one post at the RIE site.


Tasks within the role include audio dictation support of Biopsy / Autopsy reports, collation of slides, reports and audit sheets for Consultant MDMs. Basic minute-taking experience is essential and evidence of this must be described please within applications.

Successful candidates must have previous relevant NHS experience working as part of a team, good keyboard / communication skills, Microsoft Word for Windows and database experience.


Successful candidates will be provided specific training required to fulfil the band 3 medical secretary post and also if interested will be supported with additional training to allow progression to apply for band 4 medical secretary posts.
