The role:
An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic commercial lawyer to join the legal team of James Fisher & Sons Energy Division, a division of James Fisher & Sons PLC. You will provide legal, contractual and compliance support to all product lines of the Division operating globally.
We require a commercial, solution-driven and self-motivated lawyer with strong communication and influencing skills, who possesses the confidence to work with senior business managers to assist with the day-to-day operation of their businesses, support material commercial contract negotiation and provide law and Group policy compliance support compliance.
Applications are anticipated from lawyers with a first private practice experience in corporate, commercial, and contractual matters.
Responsibilities – Working under the supervision of the Division Chief Counsel the interim legal counsel will be involved with a wide range of commercial legal work including the following tasks:

- Reviewing, advising, drafting and negotiating commercial agreements including oil and gas service agreements, agency, license and distribution agreements, cooperation and development agreements, confidentiality agreements, framework and teaming agreements etc.;
- Provision of legal services and advice to all internal stakeholders;
- Managing litigations, disputes and claims;
- Advising on legal, commercial, governance and compliance issues, including but not limited to Data Protection, Anti-Bribery and conflicts of interest issues;
- Instructing and liaising with external advisors.
Required Experience:
- 3–5-year qualified lawyer;
- Sound knowledge of and practical experience in contract and commercial law;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both orally and the written word;
- Capable of adapting legal advice to enable desired commercial outcomes;
- Adept at delivering to tight timescales, while managing multiple cases simultaneously;
- Self-starter, motivated and capable of operating outside comfort zone;
- Flexible and good team worker, assisting as part of wider group legal team where necessary;
- Confident in dealing directly and managing relationships with directors, senior managers, customers and suppliers.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in the Energy Industry (including renewable industry)
- Experience of contract law as private practice lawyer and then in-house lawyer;
- England/Wales or Scottish qualified solicitor.
